Loan ID rules

SPCR does not impose a naming scheme for Loan IDs. The following constraints apply.

Rules

• No spaces. Replace any spaces in your source data with a dash.
• 5 to 64 characters.
• Letters, digits and - _ / . only.
• Must start with a letter or a digit.

A tranche prefix forms part of the Loan ID and counts toward the 64-character limit.

Before generating Loan IDs

Loan IDs are permanent

Once registered, a Loan ID is reserved across the entire registry, in every pool and for every originator. It cannot be reused or registered again. This permanence is what prevents double-pledging.

Spaces are not permitted

Registration rejects any Loan ID containing a space, and the verification page reports such input as an invalid format without performing a lookup. If your source data contains spaces, replace each with a dash before registering, and give funders the Loan IDs exactly as registered. The registration form flags spaces as you type.

Originator, year, pool and sequence number. Any consistent scheme is valid. A scheme that encodes the pool allows each identifier to be traced to its pool.
